3D Class Week 16 Creating An Environment Part 04 (Vegetation)

This week we will learn hot to create vegetation for game engines.

1. Please watch the Andrew Gahan - Maya in Minutes - Creating Vegetation.mp4 video found on the XDrive:

Then watch the first 15 minutes of the video that I created for you called:

I have provided tools and resources for you to look at, there are models, textures and UE4 assets.

You will need to set up a vegetation card in Photoshop.

You will then need to apply that to a flat plane in Maya and cut out all of your shapes to actually build your vegetation.

You will then assemble all of your shapes in Maya and Vertex paint red where you do not wish wind to move your vegetation.

There is a brief section in the video that shows how to use Maya Paint FX to create grass easily in Maya, this can be rendered out and placed on cards for a very nice look. (Around the 2 min mark)

Make sure to set up your material for your vegetation in UE4 to use the two sided Foliage technique.

Once everything is ready to go in UE4 you can add your vegetation to the foliage tool and paint your vegetation onto your landscape and other objects.

Build your final lighting and show off your results!
