3D Class Week 10 Concept Discovery With 3D

For this week we will look at using Maya and Zbrush as a concepting tool.

When using Maya it is possible to use the toon outline tools along with the toon (tri) shader to give a more illustrative look to your 3D concept pieces.

It is also possible to take our 3D work that we are creating in ZBrush and render it in a way that we can turn into a more illustrative look.

If you would like to take a look at some interesting ZBrush threads on how to use 3D in an illustrative way take a look here

Take a look here to see how Naughtydog used (previously Google) Sketchup to create concept art using 3D during the design phase.

This is also a good time to have the various teams take over specific tasks and ownership of craft specific problems.

Example, Tech Artist are looking into VR navmeshes, teleporting, time of day changes and post process blending from one environment location to another. Animators can start to build simple rigs and test out animations via state machines. Environmental animations can be explored.

All this work can be happening at the same time the 2D and 3D artist are exploring design techniques.
